| History: This man developed a sudden onset loss
of left central vision during heavy lifting. The fundoscopy revealed
a doom-shaped subhyaloid haemorrhage. He is otherwise fit and well and has no history of diabetes or hypertension. The blood tests are normal. A diagnosis of Valsalva retinopathy is made. The vision improved slowly over the next few months as the haemorrhage resolved spontaneously. Some ophthalmologists have recommended the use of YAG laser to break the hyaloid face in the hope that the resulting vitreous haemorrhage may be absorbed more rapidly. This was not performed in this patient. |
