History: A 58 year-old man presented with a right
visual disturbance described as dimming of
his right inferior visual field. The visual acuity was 6/9 in the RE and 6/6 in the LE. Fundoscopy revealed two shiny emboli (cholesterol) in the right superior retinal artery. He was referred to the cardiologist for further investigations. Echocardiogram was normal but the carotid artery ultrasound revealed bilateral atheroma with narrowing of 40%. No endarterectomy was performed as the narrowing were below the critical level. He was advised to take 75mg of aspirin a day. The emboli disappeared at 3-month follow up. |
