| The first Braille stamp (with letters
embossed in braille) was issued by Brazil
in 1974 to commemorate
the 5th World Council for the Welfare of the Blind in Sao Paulo. Braille issues are more symbolic than practical because the papers used for stamps are so light weight that it does not hold the raised braille for any significant period of time. The braille tends to flatten quickly once pressure is applied to it either through touch reading or weight of any kind. |
