Louis Braille was born in Coupvray
near Paris in 1809. The house he was born in is now a museum. He
became blind in one eye at the age of 3 from an accident at his father's saddle shop. He lost his other eye a few years later probably as a result of sympathetic ophthalmia. He was sent to Paris where he lived at the Hospice des Quinze-Vingts untile he was 10. He then went to the Institution Nationale des Jeunes Aveugles in Paris where he was trained as a teacher of mathematics. |
